The Black Brigade in Trieste was the " Tulio Cividino " and was classified as " Indipendent Black Brigade " .

At the moment I cannot find any infos relevant to operations in which the Tulio Cividino was involved and will revert if have any news .

In Trieste there was also a Women Black Brigade " Norma Cossetto " .

This unit was formed during the fall of 1944 with about 500 fascist men. It was commanded at first by Lt.Col. Antonio VIDUSSO, later on by the Secretary of the Republican Fascist Party for the Province of Trieste Bruno SAMBO, that had as Adjutant the Lt. Col. Carlo GIOPPO-RINI.
Commander of the 1st Btl. was Major Nicola CATALANO, and later Major Massimo SARACENI that had been commander of the 2nd Btl.
Besides the 2 Btls, there was a Compagnia Comando.
At the end of November 1944, Globocnick subordinated the Brigade to the SS-Commander for the Province of Trieste, SS-Sturmbannfuhrer Georg MICHALSEN, that on 7.12.1944 emanated a special Beforderung.
Michalsen re-organized the Brigade with a Compagnia Comando and 4 Infantry Companies of wich one of Reserve. Three Companies were subordinated to to the Security Commander of the road Trieste-Fiume, Dietrich ALLERS, and were dislocated along this road in Velike Mune, Padgorje, etc...
The Compagnia Comando and the Reserve Company wer esubordinated to the ORPO Commander for the Province of Trieste, Oberstleutnant TENNSTADT.

Hope this helps you a little

I revive this old thread to give some infos about the black brigade Tullio Cividino stationed in Trieste during 43/45 .

- Tullio Cividino to whom the brigade was dedicated was a fascist martyr killed by the partisans on 1st April 1944 in Garibaldi square , he was a young officer cadet who on 8th sept 43 decided to continue fighting at Germans side and joined the GNR M Battalion " Venezia Giulia " .

The brigade reached a strength of around 400 men , its commanders were ;
Colonel Luigi Ruzier till sept 44
Colonel Antonio Vidusso from sept 44 till end nov 44
Colonel Bruno Sambo from 28 nov 44 till may 45

The brigade was completly at the orders of SS Gruppenfhurer Globocnik .

Initially the brigade was not much trusted by the germans and employed for working services , from nov 44 the brigade passed under the orders of SS Strmbannfhurer Georg Johann Michalsen .

From the winter of 44 the black brigade was also used for more war like activities , three companies were employed to guarantee security of the road Trieste - Fiume .
The command coy and the reserve one were employed for security services in the hinterland of Trieste province , as garrisoning the railway line and operated in the areas of Velike Mune and Podgorje .

At end of April 45 most of the brigade joined the germans retreating towards towards germany's borders and is not clear what was their fate .

The C.O. Col Sambo left Trieste few days before the entrance of Tito's bands and after five days of laboured march reached Venice where gave himself up to the british police which promptly despatched him to the Italian authorities but it seems that he survived the post war years .

main source for these infos is an old book " Le Brigate Nere " of Ricciotti Lazzero printed by Rizzoli

Hope this can be of interest for some members

Yours

I've been looking for that book since a long time with no luck. Could you tell us in which year it was published and all the details? I couldn't find it even in the national slovene library, here in Trieste, which is usually very well updated with Mr Ferenc titles.
