I have some basic facts:
I believe Lietzmann was a survivor of the Gneisenau. He wrote a book in 1930 entitled "Auf verlorenem Posten". He commanded the naval forces in the Adriatic during WW2. Here he is as a Korvettenkapitän in 1930.

Max,
Excellent photo of young Leitzmann! Of interest, he is displaying the WWI EK II and Prussian Lifesaving Medal on his bar and WWI EK I and the Colonial Badge (A.K.A. “Elephant Order”) pinned to his breast.
Leutnant zur See Lietzmann was one of only seven officers to survive the sinking of the armored cruiser Gneisenau during the Battle of the Falkland Islands on 8 December 1914. The ship’s first officer, Fregattenkapitän Hans Pochhammer, was the senior surviving officer. Future Vizeadmiral Heinrich Ancker, then an Oberleutnant zur See, was also one of the surviving officers.
Best regards,
Shawn
