is your death date of Steindl correct: 30.5.? 1945? After wartime?
I have 3 various death dates of Steindl:
29.04.1945
30.03.1945
07.04.1945.
I´m not sure what is the correct date.
Steindl was only SA-Oberführer (promoted 09.11.1942)

Re: Franz Steindl (SA-Oberführer)
Hello,
Franz Steindl fought in Norway during the Invasion against the British. He was part of a commando that landed with boats and then went through the Mountains to reach Narvic before the British. He was decorated with the Narvic Shield, Iron Cross I,II and Goldenes Ritterkreuz (golden version of the War Merit Cross?!) (the problem is they were lost after the war). I´m not sure if he also received other decorations. He also fought against Yugoslavien Partisans in the Untersteiermark (Under Styria?!). Franz was part of the illegal NSDAP during the Austrofascism and was part of various operations.
He died in Rechniz fighting russian troops as part of the Volkssturm, which he led.
I´m working on a biography about him and i search for every information i can get. So send me information if you have any , please. The results of my work i will post here if you are interested.

Re: Franz Steindl (SA-Oberführer)
As a soldier of Gebirgs-Jäger-Ersatz-Regiment 138 he was engaged in Westwall and Norway. He was promoted to Unteroffizier and was decorated with EK II. He left the army in summer 1940.Austria wrote: Franz Steindl fought in Norway during the Invasion against the British. He was later awarded EK I; Bandenkampfabzeichen; Verwundetenabzeichen in Bronze; Deutschen Kreuz in Silber (in the beginning of 1945)
In 1942 he was Bereichsleiter der NSDAP, later Oberbereichsleiter and in 1944 Hauptbereichsleiter.
Could someone explain to me what these NSDAP duties and positions were, please?

Re: Franz Steindl (SA-Oberführer)
The usual information on Franz Steindl is that he was SA-Oberführer.
In the newspaper Marburger Zeitung (Amtcliches Organ des Steirischen Heimatbundes) of 4.4.1945 in the introduction to the arcticle on Steindl's death one can read „Bundesführer des Steirischen Heimatbundes, Gauorganisationsleiter SA-Brigadeführer Franz Steindl“. Later on, in Steindl's biography, it is written that in 1942 he was promoted to SA-Oberführer but no information is given when his (supposed) promotion to SA-Brigadeführer occured.
