Can somebody give me some more info about this police-officer??? He was SS-Sturmbannführer und Major der Polizei. Also commander within II/Pol Rgt Bozen. KIA in 1944.

And also info on Alois Menschik is welcome, at least when he's an SS-officer(which I don't know for sure).

Thanks,
Mike

Dobek was a holder of the Blood Order. He is in a photo which is on page 64 of my SS Leadership Corps first volume.

Dobek was a member of the Austrian Police as well as the SS. He was a direct participant in the Dollfuss Putsch for which he was sentenced to hard labor. His release as well as other imprisioned Austrian SS men was negotiated between Schussnig and Hitler in 1938. Dobek went to Germany and was taken into the Schupo. He rose in rank with some alacrity and served as Adjutant to Retzlaff in Wien. He seemed to be a gregarious fellow, as his photo postcards are seen and he has turned up for me in many odd photo opportunities. He was transfered to the Pol. Geb.Jag. Rgt. 18 as a company commander for a year or so then on to Pol Rgt Bozen. He was killed by partisans in 1944. Some of his things came out in a German auction house, such as the Blood Order and Urkunde, and some promotion documents.

Here is a photo of Dobek during a visit of his general with Daluege and others. Dobek can be identified by his oddly formed ears.

All those photo post cards. He was a photo ham, wasn't he. The last one was during his service with the Pol Geb Rgt. Of course, there is the connection of his II Btl. of the Pol Rgt Bozen to the Ardeatine Caves Massacre. That might be Menschik shaking hands with him in the photo in this link. http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 8&start=15

Johann (Hans) Dobek

geb. 3.3.07 ss nr. 310 495
vermis. 5.7.44 NSDAP 897 520

Hptschrfuh. 1.11.37
Ustf. 25.7.38
Ostf. 9.11.38
Hstf. 1.3.40
Stbf. 9.11.43

In April 1944 Dobek was transfered to III/Pol Rgt Bozen, not II as noted earlier in this thread.

Obst d. Schupo Menschik is noted as "apparently" the Rgt. Bozen Kdr. in Munoz's comments in "The German Police/ SHAEF". But the only Menschik I have found in my research was an Obstlt. d. Gendarmerie Alois Menschik, born on 2.3.88, having beein promoted back in June 1932. Munoz gives no source for his information. A 55 year old commander of a police combat regiment is possible, but?

Further information on the III/Pol Rgt Bozen is found in the book "Death in Rome" which discusses the Ardeatine Caves Massacre. It indicates the commander of the III Btl. from Feb 1943 was a Major Helluth Dobbrick. There was a Hptm. Walter Dobbrick from January 1940 who might be the same person but with name confusion. It is also possible that Dobek might have been the successor to Dobbrick after the terrorist attack and subsequent murder of civilian hostages.

The information that I have located indicates that Dobek was appointed Btl. Kdr. of III/Pol Rgt. Bozen on 15.9.43. He evidently relieved Dobbrick if the information in the book "Death in Rome" is to be believed. So Dobek was commander at the time of the Via Rassalla attack the following Spring and the subsequent massacre in the Ardeatine Caves. He was reported missing in July 1944.

Hi Andrey, without being able to add anything substantial: that must be him. Look at his very characteristic ear. I think there is no doubt.

I can also add, that the quarry photo can be found in the book Benito Bermejo: Francisco Boix, der Fotograf von Mauthausen (book also comes in other languages as far as I know) and in a little bit better (but noch much) resolution in the book: Das sichtbare unfassbare / the visible part - photographs of Mauthausen Concentration Camp. ( page 63). The latter is the catalogue of an exhibition, no author given.
