Bormann's Family

Postby Zapfenstreich » 19 Jul 2004 03:21

Does anyone know what happened to Bormann's family? His wife seemed to be very attractive as a young woman. I believe he had many children. Did they survive?

Dear Zapfenstreich,

After the war Martin Bormann was missing and Gerda moved with eight of her children in the village of Wolkenstein, twenty kilometres north east of Bolzano. (Italy) She was dicoverd and interrogated for days. In the autumn of 1945 Gerda Bormann was brought to the hospital in the Italian city Merano. There the doctors discoverd that she had cancer. She died on april 23, 1946 in Merano.

Best,
Mich.

Hello Zapfenstreich,

I have the book of Martin Bormann jr. "Leben gegen Schatten" in wich much is told about his brothers and sisters.

If you can tell me what you exactly want to know about them, i can look it up for you and put it on.

Mich-Thank you for your very informative response.

mulisch-I'd like to know the following things:

1. What was Edda's background and her family upbringing like before she married Bormann?

2. Did Bormann abandon her and the children and try to save his own skin?

3. Where did she go and how did she get there after the fall of the 3rd Reich?

4. How was she treated by the Allies after they captured her?

5. How were the children treated and where are they now?

Thanks.

I don't know how the children were treated, but I do know that Martin Bormann Jr. did become a priest, and I believe he's currently in Africa giving speeches denouncing Nazism. I hope that I could help, a little!

Martin Bormann Jr. became a catholic priest and was a missionary in Africa. Then he returned to Germany, but after a car accident he fell in love, left church and got married. Then he became a teacher, and I think now he holds lectures about Nazism in Germany.

And his book Leben gegen Schatten is really worth to read.
BTW, do a forum search and you'll find some interesting topics both about Martin Bormann and Martin Bormann Jr.

Best Regards,
Polona

Hello,

1) She was the daughter of Reichleiter Walter Buch, an Alter Kampfer from the NSDAP since 1922 or 1923, close friend of Hitler, he was one of the first 12 nazis who gain the entry in the Rechstag. He was the Leader of the Highest Party Tribunal of the NSDAP. Then, his family was considerated with privilegy. It was commun in Germany the commentary about the convenience of the marriage to Martin Bormann in the first years of the regime.

2) No. He died in the intent of escape from Berlin to rescue his family and take a new position in the Donitz´s new Reich. Instead his lover, Martin took care of his family all time.

3) She went to Italy where she was captured by americans, she died a few months after by cancer.

4) Bad of course. The allied believed that Martin was live and hidden under her skirt.

5) sorry I don´t know.

Best,

Please read the book 'My Father's Keeper' by Stephan Lebert to read whappened to Martin Borman Jr. and the other children of Bormann. (I believed two died at young age.)
I hope it's informative for you!

Best,
Mich.

By the way, it's not Edda Bormann, but Gerda.

Are you sure those children aren't Albert Speer's children? That looks like Hilde Speer and Albert Speer Jr.

I'm sorry! I haven't looked careful enough! 'Women of the Third Reich' states too that Gerda was born on OKTOBER 23, 1909. My mistake.
Mulisch was right! :D

Best,
Mich.
