I'm looking for any information about this ad-hoc unit and its provisorical divisional HQ, Divisionsgruppe Krause. Both units have fought in Hungary and Austria during early 1945.
Any info is more than welcome.
Thanks,
Best,

Abel

source: Tessin vol14, page 134:

Founded september 1944 by WK XII from the Div.Nr. 462 with 6 batallion-sized kampfgruppen:
"Walkure"-kampfgruppe 15/XII I., II. from Wehrkreis-Unterfuhrerlehrgang XII Idar-Oberstein
"Walkure"-kampfgruppe 5/XII (one Btl.) from Gren.Ers.Rgt. 246
Alarmeinheit Fahnenjunkerschule VI Metz I.-III.

The Division built two regiments: WAGNER (from 15/XII) and STOSSEL (from Fhj-schule VI)
On 9-10-1944 the Division was transferred to the Feldheer as 462 Inf.Div. The Rgt. Stossel got the number 1215 and the Rgt. Wagner the number 1216

Commanded by
1944 Sept LXXXII 1.Armee HGr. G Metz

For so far the information I could find.

Good luck with your research

Hmm :| Abel, Gertjan both units were formed in March/April from various units available in 6. Army's rear area in order to deal with the Russian breakthrough NE of Graz.

Sperrverband Motschmann (Hauptmann Erich Motschmann - Kdr. III./Jg.Rgt.750 - 118. Jäger Division - he received DKiG for his actions)

Early April 1945

Gebirgspionier-Ersatz- und Ausbildungs-Abteilung 83
Gebirgsjäger-Ersatz-Bataillon (probably only HQ see bellow)
1 batt. Geb.Art.

It was later significantly reinforced with SS-Polizei Regiment 13 and had on 18 April 1945 the next OoB:

SS-Polizei Regiment 13
Gebirgspionier-Ersatz- und Ausbildungs-Abteilung 83
Stab Gebirgsjäger-Ersatz-Bataillon 36
1 Nachrichten Zug
1 Panzer Zerstörer Zug
1 Radfahrer Schwadron

Divisionsgruppe Krause (Generalleutnant Walther Krause - Korück AOK6 and a former Kdr. of Lehr Brig.900 and a RKT)
also formed in late March/early April 1945 around Rechnitz.

At first, on 31 March, it was formed around SS-Pz.Gren.-E. u. A.-Btl.11, a Volks-Werfer Brigade (17 or 19) employed as infantry, FEB 75, Gebirgsjäger-E. u. A.-Abteilung 138, a Gebirgs-Veterinär-Ersatz-Kompanie, a Kavallerie Ersatz Schwadron from 3.Kav.Div., Btl."Büttner" and some Landschützen units.

On the next day the formation was reorganized in KG Schweitzer (SS-Pz.Gren.-E. u. A.-Btl.11 and a Btl. from SS-Rgt. "Ney", Kavallerie Ersatz Schwadron was probably also with this KG) and KG Gottwald (Volks-Werfer Rgt. 24, Btl."Büttner", FEB 75, Beo.Abt.34 and other units).

On 4 April Krause was reinforced with KG Groth (Kdr. Geb.Jg.Rgt.99 - conqueror of Elbrus he received KC for his actions in Austria).

On 6 April Divisionsgruppe was again reorganized:

Geb.Jg.Rgt.98 (2 btl.)
1 Btl. Geb.Jg.Rgt.99
1 Werfer Brigade
2 Volkssturm Btl.
2 light Abt. Geb.Art.Rgt.79
1 heavy Abt. Geb.Art.Rgt.79

On 12 April units from 1.Volks-Gebirgs-Division returned to their parent division and Sperrverband Motschmann was attached to it.

Finally on 20 April the Divisionsgruppe Krause is scratched and Krause returned to his position in AOK6.

Hopefully someone will be able to answer your ussual follow up questions

Thanks Mark,

The Eastern Front is not my best part of knowledge, especially the heeresgruppen Mitte and Sud, so maybe one day it will supplement my small library. So many books to look for...

Hi Marko / Gertjan,

a late thanks to both of you.

1. What kind of follow up questions?

2. Is this a joke?

3. Or what? :D

Since then, Jan Endzeit has given me some extra data on the numerification of the units within the SV Motschmann; please see this

http://www.feldgrau.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=12590

thread.
Thanks once more, you have been most informative and helpful, as usual.
Best,

Abel
