#1

Post by kstdk » 06 Nov 2004, 16:43

Hello all

I have, from the owner - got permission to show theese pictures of a Radarstellung with a Würtzburg Riese radar and a bunker in the near background, and som additional building of some sort in the far background.

I have to believe it is from the Normandy Coast. The occation is some Japaneese Delegation on visit on the Atlantic Wall.

It could be the site at Douvres de la Deliverande, but i am not sure, but it looks like it to me.

But excactly where and when - i do not know ???

Anybody able to help out here ???

Regards
Kurt

Next:

Same occation - German Heavy Flakstellung. It looks like 10,5 cm. or maybe even 12,8 cm flak to me ??

Where in the Normandy region near Douvres de la Deliverande was this flak positioned ??

Could it be in the Caen area, Carpiquet Airfield maybe ??

Hello

Thanks Juha - there could be a connection afterall.

Anybody know of Schwere Flakbatterie, M.Fl.Battr. Vulcan 4/231 in Brest ??? They were equiped with 12.8 cm. M40 !!!

And, according to reliable source - the Japaneese Delegation visited this battery, at the same time as the U-Boat bunkers at Brest. There exists a series of photos of that event, and theese pictures might be a part of theese ???

And, if it is this flakbattery - where in Bretagne is the Radarsite then ???

And, is it a "normal" WR - or is it a See Riese radar ??

Hello

New "hint" from same reliable source !!!

The radarsite could be the one at Pointe de Raz, called "Renntier" - and the "building" in the far backgruond could be a Mammuth Radar L 485 with 2 pilars. ???

Anyone know something about "Renntier" ???

Hi, Renntier was a radar station who is attacked by GB clawhammer commando opération circa 41/42 ?, ist near cherbourg, no ?
My first idéa is the soldier we see near the bigs guns (i'm not so expert for to be sure it's12.8 cm) was soldier from Wh or Km, not Lw (see eagle on helmets ), certainly WH Flak ...
If it's 12.8 : For 12.8 c used by heer i have found locations
(on attachement)

Best regards, Dan

Hello all.

First - Thanks for all the replies so far !!

To Erich: Yes, it certainly is 128 mm guns.

To Dan: I have the Flakbattery named "Vulcan" - not Montbarrey ??

And - 4 Ma.Fla. 231 is also the number of the unit and thats also what i have got !!

But - i have it situated in or near Brest - and not Cherbourg ????

And that goes for the Radar position as well, Brest not Cherbourg - and the name "Renntier" schould be right for the Radar at Pointe de Raz ???

Anyone who can give the right answer to this ?? And anyone have more information on the Japaneese Delegations visit to France - Where did they go and / or what did they see - and what was the purpose of their visit ???

A lot of unsulved questions, but interesting and most relevant i think !!

I know they visited the U-Boat bunkers and fortifications in Brest, and the series of pictures ( negatives ) from The Militärarchiv in Koblenz shows the visit to Brest and to the Flak position nearby. But did the visit other places ??

Hello all

I have found an interesting site:

http://www.wochenschau-archiv.de/titels ... 700A000000

At page 1 year 1944 W ( 77-1944 ) and page 3 W ( 65-1944 ) shows japaneese officers visit german troops.

Be sure to see the other links as well, very interesting site. This is a guest´s page. At the front page one can apply for membership !!!!

Montbarrey was one old fort place near Brest , where 4./marine Flak Abteilung 231 use 12.8 c Flak .
For Renntier, i found nothing more ...
I'm allways in research ...
I think they are nombrous Wurtzburg and See riese toward Brest and on the islands ...
Best regards, Dan

Hello Dan

I quite agree in your statement on Brest and Montbarrey ( Ma.Fla. 4/231 Vulcan ), that is correct, also in my opinion.

I am also working further with the radarsite "Renntier", but not found anything yet. But, as you say - there were many strongpoints along the coast into Brest and on the peninsular.

But - thanks for your input - we must try to find more :)

Btw: Have you tryed the link to the "Wochenschau" ??

Certainly not easy to obtain absolute identification for Wurzburg and 12.8 c place ... Japanese visited diverses differents places, the picture attached was taken to Portzic batteries (near Brest too)
