Information on KC-Holder Friedrich Holzer ?

#1

Post by Ulsch » 08 Jan 2005, 01:20

Hello,
as a child (in the 60s) I and my parents met "Uncle Holzer" (not a real uncle) once or twice a year in our vacation village.
My father eventually saw his bloodgroup-tattoo and so I heard that he had been in the SS. It didn´t mean anything to me and nobody spoke about it again.
Months ago I remembered, googled and found some information about "Obersturmbannfuehrer Holzer" on Dan Reinbold´s Das Reich-page (various personnel), on another page about a victorious tank-battle near Kolomak (13th Sept. 1943) and his name on all those lists with Holders of KC, German Cross in Gold, Close-Combat etc..
I even found a picture with him as Hauptsturmfuehrer (when I see right) with his KC.
The question: Has anybody more detailed personnel information about his career or even pictures that might show him (11.SS-Standarte (Vienna), SS-Standarte "Germania", Junkerschule Braunschweig, Reg."Der Fuehrer", 2nd SS-Panzer Division "Das Reich", Panzer-Ausbildungs-und Ersatz-Regiment, SS-Panzerbrigade "Westfalen" (Regiment "Holzer")) ?
Or where can I find more information about him (books etc.) ?
I add the found picture.
Hopefully somebody can help me - thanks in advance - Uli !

His biography and photos appear in Mark C. Yerger's German Cross in Gold Holders of the SS & Police (Volume I - "Das Reich"), published by Roger J. Bender.

Here is some basic data.

Best wishes,

Dear Michael,
thank you for the quick response and the information about the book.
Of course it is not easy to get in Germany.
The only close (more or less) place I found (with google) was a mailorder-shop in Belgium - for € 50,- (plus posting/handling).
I know it must have been a hell of a work to collect all those data and finally make a book out of it, but it is still a lot of money for me.
Maybe another german member of this forum knows a place in Germany where I can get it a bit cheaper !?
Anyway - thanks again !
Uli

I know SS-Ustuf Friedrich Holzer was a Staffofficer and Liaison-Officer with III./SS.VT-Standarte 'Der Führer' in May 1940 and he took part in the Western Campaign. Apparently he replaced a wounded platoon commander during that campaign, does somebody know which platoon that was??

I also have an SS-Ustuf Holzer who was Ordonnance-Offizier with SS.VT-Standarte 'Der Führer' in September 1940.
SS - Regiment "Der Führer" d. SS - Verfügungstruppe - Division (D)
SS - Verfügungstruppe - Division. Offizierstellenbesetzung 1.9.1940.
Stab
Rgt.-Kommandeur SS-Oberführer Keppler
Rgt.-Adjutant SS-H'stuf Lingner
Ordonnanz-Offizier SS-U'stuf Holzer
Verpfl.Offz. SS-O'stuf Dangel
Waffenmeister SS-H'stuf Breitenbach
T.F.K. I SS-O'stuf Gläsker
T.F.K. II SS-U'stuf Stave
Werkmeister (K) U.F.
Zahlmeister SS-H'stuf Schwarz
Source: http://gliederungundstellenbesetzung.bl ... chive.html

Since Friedrich was also Ordonnance-Offizier I think he's identical to this SS-Ustuf Holzer but I'm not sure since two things don't match. Friedrich was OO with III.Sturmbann, while this man was OO with the Staff from the Standarte, and he got promoted to SS-Ostuf on 01-06-1940 already, while this Holzer was still Ustuf in September 1940.
Who can help me here??

Greetings, Mike
