Two Panzer-divisions for Rommel?

#1

Post by Petterson » 14 Jan 2005, 11:15

von Tippelskirch did mention in his book "geschichte des Zweiten Weltkrieg" that there were in summer 1942 preparations to sent Africa two Panzer-divisions which were "equipped for tropical warfare". Eventually those Panzer-divisions were senti to Eastern front?

Does anyone know the numbers of those Panzer-divisions?

Because of the fast changing situation on the eastern front every Panzerdivision available in France was under discussion. They did not fix certain divisions because they had to pick these which were in refreshing/reorganizing France at the moment the decision wwould have been made.
Divisions in the west summer - end 1942 were
1.SS, 2.SS, 6.Pz., 7.Pz., 10.Pz., 26.Pz.

The 10th Panzer Division did eventually reach Tunisia in North Afrika in late 42 early 43, which included Panzer Regt 7. Part of Tiger Battalion 501 also made it to Tunisia.

Regards.
