Hannes Philipsen.
SS-Obersturmführer.
Was in June 1944 commander from 1st Platoon with 1st Company from (Heavy)SS-Panzer-Abteilung 101
and commander from Tiger #111 with SS-Panzer-Regiment 12 from 12th SS-Panzer-Division ‘Hitlerjugend’.

Is he maybe the same person as Hans Philipsen???
SS-Untersturmführer.
Was in February 1943 commander from 2nd Platoon and commander from Tiger #425 with
4th (Heavy)Panzer-Company from SS-Panzer-Regiment 1 with 1st SS-Panzer-Division ‘LSSAH’.

Thanks,

Hello Phil,

Totally somewhere else with my minds apparently because I overlooked this. Indeed it could be the same one as my number one. Like you say the name and rank are the and indeed alot of 'LSSAH'-officers went to the 'HJ' Division in 1943 and in 1944.

Oh well, in some cases we'll probably never know if two persons are in fact one and the same just because there's not enough info available.

Thanks,
Mike

Hello Mikedc,

The two Philipsen are the same Philipsen, Platoon Commander in 1./s.SS-Pz.Abt 101 and killed 16.6.1944 outside Villers Bocage.

Hello pk,

Well well well, here we have the answer I was looking for but thought it never would be found.

May I ask you what your source is??? And do you have some more info on this officer, like his SS-number and maybe his DoB and PoB???

And what about the Johannes Phillipsen Phil is talking about??? Is that a different person which could be because it's written with two 'll's' and mine with just one 'l'???

Thanks,
Mike

Hello!

I would like to correct a mistake in the following:

"Hannes Philipsen.

Tiger #111 was a Tiger of the sSSPzAbt 101 and was never a part of the SS Panzer Regiment 12 of the 12th SS Panzer Division. sSSPzAbt 101 however, was attached and fought alongside the 12th SS Panzer Division but this does not mean that they were a part of the Division.

To answer the question, yes the Philipsen of Tiger #425 is the same as the Philipsen of Tiger #111. However, the number 425 might be incorrect for a Tiger as the numbers are listed differently in different sources. Some sources list Panzer 425 to be a PzKpfw III as the first Tigerkompanie of the Leibstandarte had mixed Panzerzug. Veterans of the first Tigerkompanie of the Leibstandarte kept their Cufftitles when the Leibstandarte Tigerkompanie became the sSSPzAbt 101, this would explain the Cufftitles.

I hope this helps!

Thank you all for your answers, it's all very much appreciated.
And thanks Wolfkin for that explanation about those numbers, it's indeed possible that the number 425 is incorrect but I just wrote down what I found....

And I now also think the Phillipsen(with the two 'l's')that Phil is mentioning is the same person as Hannes or Hans Philipsen (with one 'l'), this because the VDK-site has the first name from the officer KIA on 16-6-44 also written as Johannes....
Nachname: Philipsen
Vorname: Johannes
Dienstgrad: Oberleutnant
Geburtsdatum: 16.12.1921
Geburtsort:
Todes-/Vermisstendatum: 16.06.1944
Todes-/Vermisstenort:
Johannes Philipsen ruht auf der Kriegsgräberstätte in La Cambe (Frankreich) .
Endgrablage: Block 30 Grab 204

So although they call him an Oberleutnant here this must be the same man as SS-Ostuf Philipsen. So now also the question from Waffen-IDF has been answered partially, only his place of birth is missing. And when I'm correct with saing that Phil's Johannes Phillipsen is the same person as Hannes/Hans Philipsen than we now also have his SS-number, 455.165 as mentioned by Phil.
So now only someone who has the Fühherliste can fill in the missing info(such as other ranks/posts and his place of birth).

Greetings,
Mike
