The official AHF Winter & Continuation War quiz thread

#1

We've had several different quizes running here in the forum for a while with great success and this new section has been open for a while without one, so I'm starting one here too.

The rules are very simple:
The first one to post the correct answer to a question, posts a new question (must be on the Winter War or the Continuation War) and so on.

Soviet TB-3 bomber shot down on 10.3.1940 during the Winter War by Swedish volunteer pilot of F 19 2nd Lieutenant Gideon Karlsson. I don' t remember the exact lake where this plane forced landed but it was near Rovaniemi.

Ok Harri,

You are in the right incident.

Was this plane type used for the interception ?

Mr. Kujansuu,

You are right that is a swedish Gladiator, but that was not what I asked.

Well anyway the Harri's answer was correct so over to him. :) The lake was Murtoselkä where the TB-3 landed.

Thanks Juke. Actually I don't know the individual code of the Swedish made J8A plane, Gloster Gladiator I (Finnish designation) or Gloster Gladiator Mk. I (British designation) :D which 2Lt. G. Karlsson was flying when he shot the plane down.

My question is related to these Swedish Gladiators. What kind of colour scheme these planes had in Finland?

Green over Silver, Finnish Blue/White insignias, and... Yellow identification letters.... (if Topspeeds answer wasn«t comprehensive enough :) )

You are on the right tracks but answers are not quite correct.

Hint #1: Camouflage painting was made using three different colours.

Long time since something written about the F 19 was laying on my table, but...

Could it then be: Green, Aluminium(Silver) and Bluegrey, with Finnish Blue/White insignias, and Yellow identification letters....

Correct! Well done! Yes, Swedish Gladiators really had the typical Swedish camouflage painting with Dark Green (Olivgrön 325) upper and Blue Grey (Blågrå 058) lower surfaces. Additionally planes had winter camouflage: wide irregular stripes painted over the upper surfaces with Aluminium colour.

Your turn, Esa. :)

Seppänen/Seppänen. No (not what I know...). I perhaps should add as a hint # 1 that with "pretty close relatives" I refer to cousins (cause at least in my family cousins are considered as "pretty close...")...
