Hello all.
I think the king tiger had to have transport tracks on to be transported by train (pls correct me if I am wrong ).
For transporting tank by road, did germany have a transporter that could carry the king tiger, or did it have to drive itself to the front ? If they did, did they have to remove the battle tracks first ?
From the pics I am surprised the the US had a transporter that could cope with a King Tiger, tracks an all . Was that transporter actually able to transport that King Tiger ?
Regards
David

The narrow "transport" Tracks were used in rail transport due to side clearance on tunnels, and on the road, to save wear and tear on the combat ones
if you check in detail the first picture, you can see the trailer is grossly overloaded, (bent), I guess tires kept blowing every 20-40 kms due to the weight of the tank.
By the sideplates and configuration of the trailer (2 rear axles, plus a 1-axle dolly in the fith wheel (front trunnion) off the trailer, I guess is of british origin.
Yes, the German Army had transporters capable of carrying the weight of the Tiger II:

Hello Xavier
Thanks for the information and the links. The king tiger transporter does not look like it could be used in places like russia. Looks like a transporter from the factory to the train rather than from the train to the front. What I am saying is that it looks like it needs a good road.
Was the reality that the King Tiger usually had to get to the front under its own steam ?

What is the location of nacho´s picture. Is that on the train station?
Here are two pictures from tiger 332. The first is when tiger arrieved at the place where nacho´s picture was made and still on the trailer.
The second picture is made on the same place but after nacho´s picture. Look for the O.T.I.T. sign and the circle with the little cross on the left hull side.
Pictures from Scheibert tigerbook
Odd question maybe: What means O.T.I.T. and what is the sense of the signs on the hull(cross in circle)?
