Wilhelm Freiherr von Faupel

Post by Peter H » 13 Feb 2005, 03:31

Any biographical information on the leader of Freikorps Görlitz (also Freikorps Faupel or Schlesische Jäger-Brigade) would be appreciated.

From what I can gather:

Awarded PLM 1917
Military adviser in South America
Head of the Latin American Institute of Berlin
German Ambassador to Spain 1936/7
Committed suicide 1945

Thanks in advance,
Peter

From http://www.argentina-rree.com/9/9-028.htm :

"...Wilhelm Faupel, un general retirado que había sido instructor militar y luego consejero del ejército argentino durante dos períodos: 1911-1914 y 1921-1926..."

"...Wilhelm Faupel, a retired general that had been military instructor and then adviser of the Argentine Army for two periods: 1911-1914 and 1921-1926..."

Hope it helps.

Hi,
My wife is related to this guy. He was her father's 1st or 2nd cousin. There is a lot of info on the net about him. I have been trying to find out what happened to him after the war. There is a family story that he was shot by the Russians but I beleive that because he was closely associated to Argentinia that he fled to this country.

I have done some further research and am now convinced that Gen. Faupel & his wife did actulally commit suicide.

Hi,
I'm actually related to this man, he was my great great great uncle. I don't know much about him but would really like to know more. All I know about him is what my nan has told me (who was his nephews daughter) and she told me that he was shot by Russians.

Hi
I've just read your post that you are related to this man. I'd be interested to know how as my great grandfather was his 1st cousin.

Hope to hear from you

Hello!
I'm intrested in Wilhelm Faupel's early life and parents, if anyone knows anything. I recently bought a XIX cth house in Lindenbusch (now Lipce, Poland) where he was born, and found some informations that his father might be a doctor. The village is small and there are no many houses where doctor might live with his family so maybe, just maybe, they were owners of my house :) I much appreciate any informations, thank you!!

Concerning his family:

Father: Dr. med. Heinrich Faupel * 26.10.1833 in Warburg/Westfalen; † 27.12.1878 in Königsdorff-Zastrzemb/Oberschlesien, indeed a doctor, who practiced, among others, in Gleiwitz and Lindenbusch
Mother: Emma, geb. Matthaei * 26.4.1840; † 14.9.1926 in Breslau

Since Lindenbusch was (and still is) a village, there were usually no named streets, but house numbers, which makes locating the doctor's house a bit difficult. Perhaps local sources from this time period could be helpful.

Jake
