Hi Harmel!

A slight problem - Guderian wasn't in Russia in 1943:

Assigned to the Staff of the Replacement General Command of the III. Army-Corps, Berlin (16 Jan 1942-28 Feb 1943)
General-Inspector of Panzer Troops (28 Feb 1943-28 Mar 1945)
At the same time, Acting-Chief Of The General Staff of the Army (21 Jul 1944-28 Mar 1945)

I've brightened up the pic so that his face is better visible, perhaps that may jog someone's memory?

Regards,

VJK

Hi JPK!

Whilst I can see a certain resemblance, Streich received the RK as an Oberst on 31.1.1941, so unfortuantely I doubt that it could be him. :(

VJK

Hi Dieter!

The only pics I have of Meyer-Rabingen are with his cap, so it's difficult to tell, but there is a definate resemblance. The pic shows a Generalmajor and Meyer-Rabingen received his RK as a Generalleutnant, so there's no contradiction there.

Enjoy your holiday, I hope you're somewhere nice! :D

Best regards,

VJK

I've not seen Meyer-Rabingen before, but comparing these two photos I'd say that its a match!

WHO IS THIS

Post by harmel » 17 Mar 2005, 21:26

HI-DIETER-VJK-and JPK. Thanks for the better picture the date should have been 1941.
Along side him is Guderian as Cmdr 2 Pz Gr/2nd Pz Army wearing his OAKLEAVES, and
it seems to that Dieter is right with Meyer-Rabingen as he was Cmdr of the 197th Inf Div
who in 1941 was under the command of Guderian(Hitlers War on Russia) by Paul Carell.
Regards to all.Harmel.

PS found another General will post later.

I would also think your picture could be Meyer-Rabingen. He was promoted to GL on 1.11.1941, so he served for some months as GM in Russia as commander of the 197.ID, though if, only a short time under Guderian.

Btw. I just found this photo of him as young lieutenant in the "Schutztruppe" in Daressalam 1914. He served there the whole WWI, as a subordinate to Lettow-Vorbeck.

Isnt it a bit unusual for an officer to become Generalleutnant in 1941 and not to be promoted further in the next 3 1/2 years, despite uninterrupted service mostly at the front? Seems he was either not talented enough to become Corps-commander, or he was disliked due to some other reason. I would like to know more out of personal interest. Before my birth he was the mayor of the town I went to school, and his very pittoresque and romantic looking house was just adjacent my school.

Thanks Freiherr,
for posting the picture the original post was cut out.
Didnt know half naked soldiers (or even officers) were allowed to attend a meeting with a high commander like Guderian!
