Some pictures from Dalmatia, from S.Kvesić book "Dalmacija u NOR"
Captured members of Split partisan detachment,Sinj,VIII.1941.
Ustaše and Italians encircled and captured 24 members of Split detachment, but on this picture we can see more prisoners, reason for this was that Ustaše arrested 10 more peasants and accused them for helping partisans, court sentenced all 24 captured partisans and one peasant to dead, other were released. Partisans were shot in Ruduša near Sinj.

Staff of Iž partisan battalion: From the left commander Šime Ivas, commissar Zdravko Bego, vice commissar Milo Vlahov.
In front is Marijan Žuvić,secretary of regional committe of North Dalmatia.
Iž battalion was formed from the men and women from Iž island, who rebelled against italian troops which were send on the island to seize oil, people of Iž rather spill oil,and italian arrested around 60 men and decided to send them to prison on land. When they left Iž harbour prisoners attacked Italians with their bare hands and managed to take controll of the ship(they have killed 7 italians) and to return on Iž. Because of posible revenge around 250 man and woman left Iž and joined partisans in N.Dalmatia. From them was formed 4th battalion of 2th dalmatian brigade, that suffered heavy casualties during Sutjeska battle(defence of Donje Bare and Gornje Bare) and after battle was more platoon than battalion size.

One picture from defence of Korčula december 1943.

After germans landed on Korčula island they have inflicted heavy losses on 13th dalm. brigade and 1th.oversea brigade, and to reinforce defences, two battalions from 1th dalm. brigade were send from Hvar to Korčula during the morning of 24.12.1943. and allocated near veary important village Smokvica,on this picture Bogdan Stupar, brigade commander give orders to his men.
Germans attacked 1th dalm. brigade after strong bombardment, and with help of tanks they tried to take Smokvica and encircle partisan troops on island. Partisans used their AT guns and stoped german attack, and in counterattack pushed germans back. This action was crucial for partisan retreat from Korčula in good order.

From "Povijest osmog korpusa narodnoslobodilačke vojske Hrvatske" by N.Anić:
Partisans with tank taken from italians,Manuš,Split.12.09.1943.
According to I.L.Ribar letter (from S.Kvesić book "Dalmacija u NOR") partisans used 4 tanks against germans at Klis pass
("they acted succesfully"), I presume that later these tanks were withdrawn to Bosnia, and even were used in Drvar operation.

From http://www.wlb-stuttgart.de/seekrieg/43-09.htm
The Niobe was build as a small cruiser for the German Hochseeflotte. After it was removed form the list of active ships of the
Reichsmarine on 24.06.1925, it was sold to Yugoslavia where it was renamed to Dalmacija and used as a training ship. On
17.04.1941, it was captured by the Italian Navy and put into Italian service on 24.04.1941, renamed to Cattaro . After the Italian capitulation on 11.09.1943, the ship was captured by German troops in Pola. Renamed to Niobe again, it was out into service again on 06.12.1943 with a mixed German and Croatian crew. Only a few days later on 19.12.1943, the ship beached near the island of Silba and three days after that, it was destroyed by British MTB 276 and MTB 298 . After 1949 the wreck was broken down.

Hey Jure, good photos. Altough Vicko and company might be mistaken for somebody else with those dark uniforms :D
BTW,he was a bigshot in "Hajduk" wasn't he? I got a pic of him and the players taken on Vis-I'll have to scan it.

Živio, Gaj!
As any politican,mr. Krstulović knew well value of sport for propaganda, look at Tito, Tuđman.......Hajduk is my team-any picture of them is cool!
Partisan wore dark civilian clothes or dark captured uniforms especialy in period 1941-1943.,I have seen pictures of first partisan detachtments, and it is hard to distinguish them from the enemy-except for small red star.
I `ll send some more pictures from dalmatia in a few days.

Jure,

do you have any info on Krstulovic's after the war, when did he die, etc. I don't know why,but he was always one of my favourite partisan commanders. Maybe because of the name? :)

Zivio,

P.S. I presumed a wartime pic of "Hajduk" players would interest a "Torcidas" like you ;) Will post it in near future.

It is good to save old newspaper, you can always find interesting things there...

This picture is one of my favourite, it is taken during the october 1943. near Bol, Brač island, on one of partisan armed ships (NB) during the patrol, notice that MG girl is wearing ballet shoes-or something alike-funny:

Also, Gaju, I found picture of your favourite partisan commander with my favourite poet,Vladimir Nazor, and I will post it soon.
