The British set up the Claims and Hirings Directorate which dealt with 'serious' looting. I would summize that there records (which I believe are at the PRO in Kew) may yield some manor of answer to your question.

Also (if you haven't already) a look at 'To the Victor the Spoils-(DDay to VE Day, the reality behind the heroism) by Sean Longden ISBN1844370380 could yield some information. Again this deals with the activities within 21st AGroup.

Andy-- thanks very much. I don't know when I'll be able to get over to England, if at all, but maybe I can rouse somebody's interest over there-- or maybe some thesis on this already exists at Oxford or Cambridge.

The patents weren't "'transfered' to British and American firms." The right of patent was extinguished and the subject of the patent became part of the public domain, available for use by anyone including the original patent holder. See the discussions at:
