Hello Erik,
This mortar was the 50mm mortar used in the Maginot fortifications.
1600 of these mortars were present in the Maginot line, mostly in the "cloches GFM ('guet fusil mitrailleur')" with or without a FM 24/29 but also in several turrets or casemates. Unlike the infantry version, this fortress version is loaded by the breech.
length of the tube : 45cm
caliber : 50mm
weight : 11kg
range : 65 to 695m (firing angle of 20°) or 950m (firing angle of 45°)
RoF : 15-30 rpm
ammunition : 50mm FA modèle 1935 (950g, 95g NX explosive, fuze 21/28B modèle 1935).
Usually in the "cloches" the firing angle is 20° and in the other fortificaions it is 45°. There is a system allowing to use more or less propulsion gases to modify the range if the firing angle is unchangeable.
For closer defense there were the FM 24/29 often mounted on the doors of the fortifications and the "goulottes lance-grenades" (system allowing to throw defensive hand grenades to the exterior, in the barbed wire nests if there is an infiltration. The 7.5mm Reibel MAC31 MG twins and the 13.2mm Hotchkiss Mle1930 HMG were usually used to fire at the ennemy at longer range and less for self-defense.

Hello Jos,
nice to see you've found an answer. Thanks for sharing this.
Question: both types were developped for re-use of the French 50 mm Mortar Mle 1935 in the Atlantikwall? Or is one of them French, the other one German?
Regards,
Barovic

Hello,
Gerät 950 S6 seems rather less sofisticated then the 945, bit more robust. I've seen 950 used on Bauform 206.
Same goes for the Gerät 945 S6, on the Channel Islands? The picture from David shows it in some kind of Ringstand.
Regards,
Barovic
