Wewelsburg commandant, Manfred von Knobelsdorff

Any information about him (biography, photo, SS rank)? I only have his name and some information about his personality: he was very interested in Wiligut tradition and shared Himmler's passion of Nordic mythology and Germanic prehistory. Pre 1939 he was kommandant of SS-Schule Haus Wewelsburg and a permanent host of the castle.

Wewelsburg Kommandant

In Der Orden unter dem Totenkopf Heinz Höhne mentions SS-Standartenführer Siegfried Taubert (photo) as the Burgkommandant since 1937. I take it that he was replaced by v. Knobelsdorff. In the same publication Höhne refers to Taubert again as "Stabsführer (Verwalter) des Sicherheitshauptamtes in der Wilhelmstrasse" as a member of Heydrich's SD organisation. jv

Thank you Andreas of that information! :)

There seem to be a spelling error. Interesting that two different books have his name as v. Knobbelsdorf with two b's. Any other information about him, such as his wartime service and postwar life? He seems to be a very interesting character, a disciple of K.M. Wiligut and belonging to the most closed "spiritual inner circle" of the prewar SS. He was responsible of organizing different rituals and celebrations in Wewelsburg such as weddings, name-giving ceremonies and summer solstices which were also open to Wewelsburg SS garrison and local villagers.

He is referred to in official SS documents as von Knobelsdorff and Knobelsdorf. I believe the double "ff" version is the correct one.

Thanks, Phil. So Hoehne was wrong (that's unusual). What about Taubert being mentioned as the Verwalter of the Sicherheitshauptamt in the Wilhelmstrasse within Heydrich's organisation? jv

Manfred von Knobelsdorff was the brother-in-law of the leader of the SS Office for Racial Questions Richard Walter Darré, whose Office was formally in charge of the Wewelsburg.
Manfred von Knobbelsdorff moved into his apartment in the south wing of the castle, together with his wife Ilse Darré and children, in August 1934.
Manfred von Knobelsdorff born 15 June 1892 in Berlin-Spandau, died 1965.
