Any other info
Thank you in advance.

Unfortunately not!J. PEIPER wrote:Do you know where I can find a pic?
But, I' m surprised at the fact, that he is - to my knowledge - not mentioned in the german literature as a Tiger-ace who killed allegedly 127 tanks and afv.
(see: http://www.feldgrau.net/phpBB2/viewtopi ... b300d41ec4).
He is not bestowed with the KC, just very extraordinarily, isn' t it so.
It' s necessary that a radical clarification removes my/our relevant doubts concerning the plausibility of the statement of his kills.

This is only a guess, but he is likely one of those guys like Kurt Knispel who was overlooked due to serving in a Tiger unit. It was expected that crews would rack up high numbers of kills in a Tiger, so sometimes the accomplishments got overlooked. Wittmann's cause was of course aided by his serving in various branches of the LAH, which received a great deal of attention and press coverage.
It is possible that the change in commanders for sSS-PA 102/502 may have negatively affected Schroif. Perhaps he got along well with Hans Weiss, but not with Kurt Hartrampf, who took over after Weiss was captured in Normandy. Of course that is only speculation, but maybe Wolfgang Schneider has looked into this for his recent book on Das Reich Tigers. Schneider spoke to many veterans, beginning with his research for Tigers in Combat 2, and in his section of that book on sSS-PA 102/502 he doesn't mention Schroif as one of the high scorers, FWIW.
