Re: Flak-Schießplatz Deep/Pommern (new: Mrzezyno, Poland)

Yes, I think the great majority of firing was into the air along the coast and out to sea, usually at target sleeves towed by obsolete aircraft. When the shells detonated, the metal fragments fell into the water rather than come down on land and injure military personnel, farmers, town's people, etc...

Re: Flak Units during GOODWOOD

Richard - Right you are..............that's what I get for jumping the gun without my reference material. My house caught fire on 26 March due to shoddy pre-code wiring and burned out. All salvageable possessions, including 3,200 books, microfilms, card files, folders of photocopies from NARA, BNA, ...

Re: Flak Units during GOODWOOD

Lexikon der Wehrmacht lists: 10 Heeres-Flak-Brigaden 5 Heeres-Flak-Regimenter 52 Heeres-Flak-Abteilungen These were independent GHQ units and not components of any divisions. To find the others that were components of divisions, you will have to look up each division. These, perhaps with a few excep...

Re: Staffel commanders of JG 27?

R.L.E. - No postwar information found, but others here might have some. Here is his wartime career. At the time he shot down your grandfather, he was the Staffelkapitän (Squadron Commander) of 1st Sqdn./JG 27. FRAMM , Gerhart. (DOB: 08.03.15). 04.04.34 entered service with the Heer (Kraftfahrer). 01...

Re: A Vindication of Gerald Reitlinger, a new book on the Holocaust

Gerald Reitlinger, born 1900, died 1978. His 3 books on Nazi Germany were written between 1953 and 1960 and are, indeed, well-researched at the time, well-composed historical works. I read all 3 of them some 50+ years ago. But wouldn't you agree that even with new data brought to light since the 's...

Re: Luftwaffe KB6

More info about the KB6 squadron can be found at this link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kampfgeschwader_6 The original poster, Plymouthkev , specifically asked about the meaning of "KB6". This could be a typo for "KG" which, of course, means Kampfgeschwader , in which case your post of 28 Septemb...

"Modern Japanese accounts" : I think you may find some, but will they be translated into English? L. deZ. Long-time memb...

Re: Japanese air power in Formosa battles

Spearfish - The Japanese Foreign Military Series written 1945-48 has one or two volumes that cover JAAF and JNAF forces on Formosa in fall 1944. This series of 125+ volumes was written directly from the Japanese military records and is very detailed. All were translated into English by the Allied Tr...

Re: The number of Luftwaffe personnel on the Eastern Front

Jarrowili - Yes, there are periodic tabulations giving the distribution of Luftwaffe personnel strength theater-by-theater. I definitely recall seeing them many years ago in the NARA RG 242 Captured German Records microfilms in WashDC. The June 1944 figure for the Ost Front was but a small fraction ...

Re: Lexikon der Wehrmacht Website

Thanks, Saskatchewan! It didn't work and it's probably because I couldn't follow your instructions, being too old now to do so. I will stick with the URL suffix (see above) to access the listings. It takes a little extra time, but that's no problem as I don't use the website often anymore. Thanks ag...

Thanks for that, Hucks. Unfortunately, I couldn't get it to open past the list of volumes. Downloading didn't work either. Time to take my new Dell laptop out to my driveway and run over it repeatedly with my car. :x :x

Thanks again, Prosper. It looks like I will have to delete some of my software and then download and install updated versions of it with factory default settings.

Re: Technische Kompanie 133 any info?

I think you are going to have a lot of work to do to find anything on an obscure company-size unit. These were too small to leave much in the way of records. Try BA-MA, which you can now search digitally online without the need to travel to Freiburg. IIRC, there is at least one book written after th...

Hi Larry, I have following Url into my favorite list and it works without any problem: http://www.lexikonderwehrmacht.de/ Thanks for that, Prosper. I just tried yours and it didn't work. It took me to the opening "zum" page and then the table of contents page, but then it froze when I tried to open...
