Leo, it was a typical situation, when the publisher knows nothing about his author(s). Andrew, I know very well the problems with the translations (and Norbert's problems as well, since I know him well). It is the reality, that the English publishers generally don't want to pay for the translations,...

[Unfortunately, both authors read and write only Hungarian (well, at least not English or German) and were unable to reply in any detail to my contact attempts]. Well, according to my knowledge, Károly Csonkaréti speak and write/read in German (and maybe in English as well). However, he is quite ol...

Andrew,

Do you know this book:
http://www.haditechnika.hu/Archivum/199202/KJ03.htm

It contains the most drawings and photos about the Hungarian Riverine Flottila.

From Hungary, 450 000+ Jewish people died (most of them in Auschwitz). I guess, the Hungarian Jewish population lost approx 480 000 souls (the rural Jewish population was simply annihilated in 1944, after Hungary was occupied by the Nazi Germany...)

Baron, again: according to my knowledge, only two Hungarian Generals were killed in action (while they were in active duty). One was István Makay, the other was Major General Béla Tanitó, who was killed by an air raid in Szombathely on 4 March, 1945 (he was born on 29 August, 1891). According to my ...

baron,

General Kiss was a member of the Hungarian resistance, but he was a retired, not an active general and was executed by the Hungarian Arrow Cross movement, not by the Germans (and in December, not in November, 1944).

Baron.waffen,

Csatay was not a classical POW in any way, he committed suicide while he was in the captivity of the Hungarian Arrow Cross movement at the Rudas bath in Budapest.

BTW IMHO if you want to do any serious research, you should try to use official sources, not forum posts;-)

AJK,

You are welcome. So, according to my knowledge, only two KIA Hungarian generals in combat, no more (another one retired general was killed by an air raid as well, but he was not active). Well, I'll ask the expert of the general bios once about the combat losses, maybe he knows more.

AJK, your sources are wrong. Major General Ginszkey died in a Budapest hospital because of lung cancer on 6 March, 1944, it was not a combat loss. Steen, István Makay's car exploded in an anti-tank mine, which was laid by the partisans (he was the only KIA in the car, the others wounded). He was hmm...

In Hungary, the German troops used limited number of AFV's against the Bulgarian 1st Army in 1945 so I guess, not any Bulgarian tank crew reached significant succes regarding the number of destroyed AFV's (and the destroyed Bulgarian AFV's here were knocked out mainly by AA artillery and close comba...
