WWII German Dogtag
WWII German Dogtag
Hello, I am trying to research a dogtag I bought years ago. From what I can make out, this is what is on it.
2./Nachr. Abt. 325
NR.1
I am guessing this is Albert Nachreiner, abbreviated of course. Also that he was in the 325th Infantry Division, but I am just also guessing that part also. Would anyone agree based on the information that is on the tag?
Also, what would NR.1 be?
A few years ago I had a German WWI dogtag that I traced to a soldier that eventually moved to Iowa with his friend after the war. By lots of research I traced down his son, still living and sent him his dad's dogtag. He sent me pictures of his father in WWI. We corresponded after that for some time.
Thanks for your help. Lee

Re: WWII German Dogtag
I´ve never seen such jabbed/engraved dogtag. Seems rather homemade to me than official issued.
Re: WWII German Dogtag
I thought it was peculiar too, but I can't see someone either sanding a tag down to remove previous stamping, or someone taking a blank and going through all the trouble of creating this tag one dot at a time.history1 wrote:I´ve never seen such jabbed/engraved dogtag. Re: WWII German Dogtag
Nachr. Abt. = Nachrichten-Abteilung ?
Re: WWII German Dogtag
I would doubt that. Didn't they cease to exist in 1919? Also this is a WWII era dogtag. But it would be cool if it were a Naval Intelligence tag from WWI.Richie B wrote:Nachr. Abt. = Nachrichten-Abteilung ?
Re: WWII German Dogtag
It's a field made replacement for 2 kompanie Nachrichten Abteilung 326, part of the 326. Infanterie-Division. Unusual but not uncommon.

Thanks Simon! It is too bad the name of the soldier is not on it also.Simon H wrote:It's a field made replacement for 2 kompanie Nachrichten Abteilung 326, part of the 326. Infanterie-Division. Unusual but not uncommon.
Re: WWII German Dogtag
Only early WW1 tags were named. In WW2 German Kriegsmarine tags were named initially but later they used abbreviations.
