SS photo value question

Post by Mark C. Yerger » 07 Apr 2002 07:57

I see period photos of various sizes on e-bay often, normally portraits with ID unknown. Can anyone venture me a current value guess each for period photos of known SS personalities, primarily KC and GC holders ? Those I have vary in size from large PK size shots to smaller private field and formal portrait types.

SS Photos

Hello Mark,
Do you actual signed photos or ones that have facsimile signatures? Here in UK you can get KC signed photos for as little as £15. I think it's always very difficult to value something - because if you're in an auction situation & 2 buyers want an item it can drive the price right OTT.
Original photos of SS units in action will cost £25-45, depending on size of photos & subject. I would have said that once upon a time LAH/Das Reich photos would be more marketable than say Nordland or Galicia, but nowadays anything with siegrunes commands a high price!

Simon:

My question is to value of original wartime unsigned photos of SS KC holders. I have several hundred and was curious. I'm more aware of exact value of signed postwar photos (actual signature) as I collected them for years.

Signed KC photos

Hello Mark,
How many photos do you think a KC holder signed during WW2? I haven't a clue, if such people were half as popular as the likes of pop/movie stars of today then there could be many hundreds out there. However I still think that some are going to be worth alot. If a collector only wants LAH stuff then watch the price go up! Hope you've got your collection insured!!

If they lived into the 1980s and 90s, a KC holder signed far more photos AFTER the war.

Yes Indeed Mark! I guess you could have an almost unique collection of photos if they are mostly wartime era - maybe material for another book?
