Here is my 1937 4WHW-6RSS Trachten aus Deutschen Gauen (Dress of the German Gaus) Mann aus der Schwalm. There were 10 in this collection and this is number 9. They were sold on the 20th and the 21st March 1937 by the DAF. Porcelain and hand painted, nice little figures. The coding 4WHW-6RSS indicates the fourth winter drive, and the RSS stands for Reichsstraßensammlung (Reichs street collection), 6RSS means it was the sixth street collection from that particular winter drive.

Mark in Cleveland, Tn. wrote:How many are there to a complete set?18 or so?
I have several, and have had these off and on through out years of collecting.
Hi Mark, just got my latest WHW reference book, and there were 20 in the set. They are cataloged as 1KWHW, for the first WHW collection drive of the war (K for Krieg or Kriegs). It is placed inbetween the 5RSS and 6RSS for 5th and 6th respectively Reichsstraßemsammlung, or Reichs street collection. I'm not sure why this collection wasn't classed as 6RSS and the 6th as 7RSS. It appears to be the only street collection without a specific RSS number. It is titled Tag der Wehrmacht, and they were sold on the 16th and 17th March, 1940 by the NSKOV, DRK, NSRKB and the RTB.

Here is a WHW-NSS Mutter und Kind Tag der Rose (Day of the Rose) donation cloth badge for the NSS, with printed lettering and NSS runic logo. It is 60mm by 11mm. Some information on the NSS - When Adolf Hitler came to power in 1933, the new Nazi government focused the German health system on their priorities such as the creation of a racially homogeneous society and the preparation of war. One of the measures to bring nursing under their control was the foundation of a new sisterhood. In 1934, Erich Hilgenfeldt (1897-1945), the ambitious head of the National Socialist People's Welfare Association (Nationalsozialistische Volkswohlfahrt), founded the National Socialist Sisterhood (Nationalsozialistische Schwesternschaft or NSS) to create an elite group that would work for the goals of the NSDAP. Hilgenfeldt proclaimed community nursing as a priority for NSS nurses. Catholic and Protestant sisters, who were traditionally dedicated to community nursing, were to be gradually replaced. However, other competing priorities, such as hospital service for the training of junior nurses and work in conquered regions, as well as the lack of NSS nursing personnel, hampered the expansion of community nursing.

Next up is a great plastic WHW badge, with the message "Ein Volk hilft sich selbst!", which, IIRC, means a people helps themselves

Next up is 4KWHW-5RSS Helden der Wehrmacht - Engelbert Endraß, 7 of 20. These great little booklets were in a series titled Helden der Wehrmacht, or heroes of the armed forces. All 20 were knights cross holders, and they came from the three branches of the Wehrmacht plus the Waffen-SS. They were 35mm x51mm, 8 pages with photos and text. This one features Kapitänleutnant Engelbert Endraß, who was a German U-boat commander in World War II. He commanded the Type VIIB U-boat U-46 and the Type VIIC U-567, sinking twenty-two ships on ten patrols, for a total of 118,528 tons of Allied shipping, to become the 23rd highest scoring U-Boat ace of WWII. Endrass began his naval career in April 1935. After some months on the cruiser Deutschland and some escort ships, he was assigned in October 1937 to the U-boat force. He joined U-47 in December 1938 as Leutnant zur See. He was first Watch Officer when Günther Prien made his famous Scapa Flow attack and sank HMS Royal Oak. The famous snorting bull emblem on U-47's conning tower was painted by Endrass before they returned.

Endrass remained on U-47 until December 1939, when he left the U-boat and after some training courses took over command of U-46 in May 1940 from Herbert Sohler who failed to have proper success. Endrass had immediate success and sank five ships, including the British auxiliary cruiser HMS Carinthia. His success continued and on his second patrol with U-46, he sank five more ships, including another British auxiliary cruiser, HMS Dunvegan Castle although the main periscope was damaged. After returning from this patrol Endrass received the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. Five patrols later he received the Oak Leaves to his Knight's Cross. In September 1941 he left U-46 and a month later took over U-567. On his second patrol he was killed on December 21, 1941, when U-567 was sunk with all hands by depth charges from the British sloop HMS Deptford and corvette HMS Samphire, northeast of the Azores. (from Wiki)

Of interest is that these were originally planned to be sold on the 6th and 7th of February 1943, but the catastrophe that was Stalingrad delayed that plus the next planned sale date of the 6th and 7th of March 1943. The RSS (street collection) sale eventually took place on the 3rd and 4th of April 1943.
