German steamer SS "Bayern"

Post by beppe » 25 Jul 2010 10:40

Hello to all,
I am researching the story of the German steamer SS "Bayern" which left Hamburg on July 24,1914 with a cargo of Skoda 7,5 guns ,machineguns and aircraft for China and Japan and was interned in Neapel,Italy, on 4 August. Any further data on these guns, the ship and her fate will be highly appreciated.

Hi Beppe

After the internmemt "Bayern" was confiscated on 12. June 1915 by the italien goverment and renamed "Alessandria".
On 2. May 1917 she was torpedoed by the german u-boat UC 74 100 miles north of Bengazi.

Great Gramps second from the left. Why the reference to prohibition?
