Could someone help me indentify the unit of the guy in the pic?



Also, any guidance about reference material on the specific uniform he wears would be greatly appreciated

Hi Fernando,

I'm no specialist about American uniforms, but the boots and the m1 with folding stock give strong hints that he is a paratrooper, so he would be a member of one of the American airborne units.

The folding stock rifle is usually carried by airborne types .

Definately Airborne....he has Jump boots, Jump Pants & "Jump Jacket", special Paratroop equipment "Shoulder straps" with pads, folding Stock Carbine, and flag shoulder patch.... he's definately 100% paratrooper.....

No way to distingush any particular unit...

This serviceman most likely is a para of the US 17th Abn. during Operation Varsity or a period after. He has a helmet the most typical for Varsity -- fixed bale and with a cord around the net. He wears the Coat, Parachute Jumper P.Q.D. No. 114 (incorrectly called by collectors and reenactors "M1942"). Majority of the 17th paras jumped behind the Rhine with M1943 Field Jackets but not all of them. Big number of the 17th paras still jumped then with the P.Q.D. No. 114s. He also has M1910 E-Tool shortened a little in a manner typical for the US WWII era paras.
