Yes Australian could be CAV but I think just a normal commissioned officer. The image is poor quality but I think it is an official Aussie image, War photography etc so maybe with a bit of research it is possible to find out.

The Australian Other ranks pattern 1903 infantry individual equipment says Infantry, as there are no cavalry bandoliers ala the 1903 bandolier for gunners and cavalry

Sir thanks for the message. Without doubt Aussie but unit/type unknown to me. I am sent quite regularly many MG images but I suspect this may be an official photo, like War Correspondent, etc.
