German Mess Tin

Post by randyb » 22 Jul 2013 13:24

Hi, I'm new to this forum mainly because I'd like to find out what the
codes on my found Mess Tin mean.

About a week ago I was walking in the forest near Wattwiller, France.
I found a (I suppose) german Mess Tin, whitout lit etc, and heavely
damaged. On the side I found the following text;

IR.25.1B.1901
3C.124

What does this mean?

Randy

Hello Randy,
Welcome to the forum!

The markings on this item do not conform to a maker of mess tins. A photograph of the markings would help to put this into context. It is a long shot but the legend could be read as "Infanterie Regiment 25, 1 Bataillon".

Kind Regards,
Simon

That's exactly what I thought. The 25th fought in that area... I'll try to post a photograph!

HI, I am trying to find out if the circular items of German field rations, such as butter dish and chocolate ration will fit flat in the mess tins or are they too big?
