If a soldier it's discharged...Why did should wear still his military uniform, and even sew a distinctive ?

Thanks for your answers.

Honorable discharge chevrons were sewn on when a soldier was processed out (i,e.: Ft. Dix, Ft. Devens, etc.).... each soldier was issued a new uniform and was to wear it while in transit home, and was allowed to wear his uniform on "veteran's Day" and appropriate holidays (4th of July, etc.). This equates to the "Discharge patch" (Ruptured Duck) worn by discharged WW 2 US veterans (and technically still authorized for Honorably Discharged vets for all post-1945 vets,).

Hope this helps...

This is a lapel version of the "rupture duck" discharge emblem for civilian clothes.... Same as cloth version except worn to show "honorable discharge" while in civilian clothes.
