What is this fake dagger worth?

Post by einwehrmann2 » 30 Dec 2016 21:49

I know it is a fake, but bought it anyway, because it was dirt cheap. So I was wondering is it worth anything? The blade is decent. The ring is broke off the scabbard. The scabbard is covered with what looks to be grained "pleather". Since a real one is worth $15,000 (or more?) I was hoping this is worth a fw hundred. Is it? Incidentally, the lettering is NOT gold. I did that to lighten up the image. Thanks for any help.

Oak leaves are missing at the beginning and end of SS motto.
Generally presentation daggers had damascus blade.
Many years ago, spanish maker MARTO ( Toledo ) made this replica SS dagger with a felt case.
I can't do an economic assessment.

von thoma - Thanks for the heads up! Mark - not everybody is as rich as you, and can own a Himmler dagger, like you do! ha ha Collectors that will never have the opportunity to own one might like this. After all, they only made 200 of them. It makes a helluva letter opener!

There are significantly more than 200 known authentic Himmler daggers. Your dagger is worth around $50.

Dwight - I just read tonight on the web that there were only 200 Himmlers. I guess you need to take whatever you read on the web with a POUND of salt! Since I only paid $20 for it, I did ok. Thanks

The MARTO's reproduction* in WAF: http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/ ... p?t=352419
* ( Plastic handle ). Could it be the same SS dagger ?
I have seen it many times, hanging from walls or fireplaces.

Lt. Col (ret) Thomas M. Johnson wrote the Himmler dagger was limited to 200 pieces way back in 1974 in the first volume of his "Collecting the Edged Weapons of the Third Reich." He's since withdrawn that, since many more than 200 have surfaced and are in collections. However, old stories die hard, especially on the internet.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder..... I wouldn't give it shelf space myself....it's worthless to any serious collector, regardless of how deep someone's pockets are, it's so much scrap metal in my book!
