Help identify - any opinions, ideas, ...

I'm hoping there are a few members out there that might have some ideas on this.
I've had this for quite a number of years. Originally took is on a barter when i had a FFL about 15 years ago or so.
Some of you might have seen it on another message board 4 / 5 years ago, but never got any answers.

Obviously it's a pitcher / carafe. I've tested it myself (not professionally) and it comes up + for silver. - German? Weller?

The DRGM on the bottom appears to be brass as it's not magnetic.
Why would this be affixed to the bottom?
I don't understand what would be considered patent-able on this, unless I'm missing something on the translation.
Should I attempt to remove it? I don't know how it's applied - try to heat it up with a torch? And possibly destroy it.

Now I've been told that it is a fake - a fake what?
Why would someone try to enhance this when it could possibly be worth more originally?

Would it make sense to add the cross - I mean it's applied as if it was born there.

Anything someone could come up with has to make an interesting conversation

I apologize for the pics - if needed, I will try to improve
Thanks ahead of time!!

98mauser,
Those who told you it's a fake are correct.... simply an old carafe with added "Iron Cross" and "DRGM" plate.... made to deceive. Many articles similar to this have been coming out of Eastern Europe since the fall of communism and are nothing the Germans would have done or used during the war. You're correct that the DRGM markings don't make any sense... but neither does the Iron Cross applied to this. I doubt the Iron Cross is real... the beading doesn't look right and real ones are made from 3 separate pieces, with an Iron core. (Frame, core, and back plate- not counting the pin, hinge and catch.)
The only reason these are "produced" is to fool the unknowing and for "the money" ..... complete "junk" I'm sorry to say!

Hey, thanks for the info!
It's kind of what I figured. I just couldn't digest what seems like a lot of effort going into something that knowledgeable people would spot.
Good info is always worth passing along and I appreciate it.

These kind of fakes are aimed at the "Un-knowledgeable" and novice collectors....

Guilty as charged! Am I also way out of line on the albums I have for sale? I was being guided by what I've seen on line.

Makers marks... "T & T", no silver mark (plated/mixed I'm sure) NS may mean "New Silver", which is a "mix" w/low silver content... doesn't matter, worthless carafe anyway.

As far as your Albums go.... since you asked.... yes, they are over-priced IMO. Everything on them is now easily available "on line" and few people have "turn-tables" to play them on. As a collector... I'd have no interest,..... as a dealer I wouldn't pay $10.00 for one. $10./20. is what I have sold them for in the recent past.... and something most vinal album collectors would not be interested in, unfortunately, either.

Of course, you can ask what you please.... just my opinion, but I've collected for over 60 years and have over 45 yrs. as a dealer (mostly local to New England) under my belt... most serious collectors have limited interest in (if any) in records from the 60s/70s of this type.

Well. before someone glopped a lot nonsense on the outside you had a nice example of a martini mixer/shaker. Should be a small screen or bar on the inside of the spout to keep ice from escaping, but many of the 1930's vintage have long lost theirs.

Fill with an appropriate amount of ice and gin, open a vermouth bottle and wave it without spilling a drop over top while whispering, "I now add the vermouth . . . vermouth!" Close it up, give it a 15 - 20 second shake, take the cap off the spout & pour. Voila!
