Japanese Flag

#1

Post by sogasoga » 29 Dec 2017, 04:25

Hello all,

I'm new and this is my first post. I dabble in collecting firearms from both World Wars and came across this Japanese flag. I bought it without really knowing it's authenticity. That is not typical of my nature, but I'd never seen one and just did it. I'm hoping that someone here might be able to alleviate my concerns now that reality has set. The flag is just over 2' x 3' and I was told it's made of silk, although it feels like rayon to me.

Thank you for any information you can provide.

Appears to be an original Japanese "Meatball" personal flag- unsigned, most probably WW 2 but are still available in Japan today.... should be silk. "Blood stains" and "bullet hole" look suspicious IMO, and the "39" means this was in someone's flag collection before you got it. Nice representative flag, the "signed ones" or one's with provenance are the most sought after. The only real issue is "how much you paid"..... (not asking....).

Thanks for the info! I probably overpaid, but I got a type 38 Arisaka with it to spread the cost around.

I've had like hundreds of these, IMO NOT WW2 era, due to...leather corner tabs are not aged like real ones are, should NOT be so new, i'e, should be crackeled, worn, dried out, not like the look here like new brown swuede type look,,,, the tie strings are typical of new ones,a weird rayon brend, like the clothes line ropes on the famous 1960's Delta International 60x90's BS flags, as JohnG says, the material and damage seems not right, and these are still being made over in Nippon and is the current national flag of Nippon
