Help with identifying Saxon pickelhaube

Post by Der Alte Fritz » 14 Jan 2018 10:39

Saxon picklehaube.jpg
Can someone help me with the type of pickelhaube, details etc.
I think that the badge is Saxon but beyond this I have no knowledge on the subject and my grandfather brought it back from the War in 1919.

Saxony is correct. Besides that I can't say much more. Is it leather, any visible coloring, is the spike detachable, any more pictures, stamps or anything else that might help?

Black leather brass spike removable, liner 7 tabs joined together with cord. All intact but no writing that I can see.
Can pay further pictures later on inside and spike.

Thanks, would love to see some more pictures of this beautiful helmet. Meanwhile I found some information for you.
History of the Pickelhaube: http://www.militarytrader.com/military- ... ked_helmet
Various parts of the helmet: https://heggisyaraihan.wordpress.com/20 ... 1-nowdays/
If any colors where chin strap is attached, it should have circular discs with the Imperial/reich cockade (red/white/black) on right side when worn and state cockade on left side which would be white/green/white for Saxony.
Some links with information and image of the various state colors: https://books.google.dk/books?id=PoSICw ... &q&f=false
