Real or fake?

Post by zacky » 17 Dec 2018 18:21

An auctionhouse near me is selling this ”Husaren Pelzmütze” or ”Death’s head”, I am struggling to determine if it’s authentic or a replica. The lanyard does not look original to me. What do you guys think?

Impossible to tell much for the photos provided, but based on what is visible I'd say it's a replica, the cords look new, the leather looks new, the liner looks new, the skull and banner look new.... and so on. Closer inspection is needed, but would have to be the mintest peitmutz to have survived over 100 years if it's original. That said, worth buying for display purposes if reasonable. Originals of this version are very expensive!

Cheers

Better than mint.... Too good to be true in other words but worth a much closer look!

OK
I get it now.
Creative grammar and a typo.

However
When I use a word,’ Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, ‘it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.’
’The question is,’ said Alice, ‘whether you can make words mean so many different things.’
'The question is," said Humpty Dumpty, "which is to be master-that's all'
