Help Identifying German Dog Tag

Post by 15ishaffer » 23 Dec 2019 07:03

My great great grandfather served in US military in WW1 and I found this dog tag with his uniform, he was stationed in France, no idea how he acquired it, his brother was killed in the war but I typed it out exactly how it’s stamped on the tag, except the S in RADERBERSTR is larger than other capital S’s. Also the 210 after the 98 is way to the side and pushed up against the STR. I did some research but struggle to put things together, hoping someone who knows more than me can enlighten me! Thanks!

It could mean Köln. (The town), Raderthal (a district/area in Köln) and finally Raderber(g) Strasse (the road).
Born on September 21st. 1898.
Ersatz Bataillon (replacement battalion) of the Jäger Regiment 68.
Not sure of the last part. Maybe 1st. Company of ????.

Thank you, thats a lot more knowledge than I had on it, I talked to a guy about in once before and coincidentally he lived on that road in Köln, but he wasn’t sure on anything else and didn’t know German that well, just enough to get by while living there.

Any chance of a photo of it. As I said in my previous post “could be”. I’m not sure it is a J and not an I because I can find info on an IR 68 and from Köln too, but no Jägers.
Could it be an I and not a J..? Would love to see a glimpse of it.

I’m having trouble uploading the pictures, it says they are too big and I’m unsure how to down size them, I would rather have posted a picture because of the way things are arranged, I’ll see if I can when I get to a computer
