Help identifying German unit from dog tags

Post by Joshcarling032 » 12 Mar 2021, 22:25

Hello,

Just looking for help identifying a unit from a German dog tag I have recently come in possession of.

I believe the unit is Korps-Nachrichten-Abteilung 438 unfortunately I'm fairly naive when it comes to this detail of research.

Any help with any information or history of this unit, or how I can find it would be greatly appreciated.

I have attached a photo of the tags

The erkennungsmarke is from the Stamm Kompanie or the base Kompanie that the Korps-Nachrichten-Abteilung 438 uni was formed from.
Later it was renamed as Panzerkorps-Nachrichten-Abteilung 438.

Formed on January 12, 1940 with four companies for the XXXVIII. Army Corps . In January 1945 the unit was assigned to the XXXVIII. Subordinated to Panzer Corps and renamed Panzerkorps-Nachrichten -abteilung 438.

Replacements for the unit was from Nachrichten-Ersatz-Abteilung 2, largely based in Poland.

However looking at this one it was made after 1945. There are lots similar about on Ebay.
