Most all I've asked on various insignia groups and www say they are a private school, I then asked how about exact ID? Stand by and am waiting on more info.

On ebay they are sold as (unknown) school pins
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-AS-on- ... 2372606869
And one with the same design but different shape
https://www.ebay.com/itm/A-S-On-Book-Ea ... 1513473477
One seller claims it’s a military chaplains lapel pin
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Military-Chapl ... 4605334793
Hope you find the right answer.

It looks like an academic award from a school.

There a many similar such badges; https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=book+ ... 2&biw=1360

I guess it symbolises "burning the midnight oil", which means, according to Wiktionary, "To work studiously, especially late into the night."

Cheers,

Sid,

P.S. I don't suppose that "AS" stands for "A Student"?

Thanks Mark. Found a scholarship medal/charm in a slightly different design made by Jostens without the AS but still with the eagle + book and lamp as Sid mentioned.
