I am new to this forum and ask for your help to identify the uniform, and if possible the decorations, on this photo. The person is likely a family member born in Odessa in the late 19th century. Most of the family members moved to France during the revolution. The photo is likely a photo of some kind of official document since you can barely make out stamps on the lower corners with the letters KO.

Re: French or possibly Russian uniform?
Hello Robur1 ;
Welcome to AHF.
Too young to be a soldier, doesn't look like a military uniform with these kind of buttons.
Most likely it is an academy, university or school uniform.
That's my idea...

The "idea" is interesting, and the two "small" awards speak more to civilian awards.
"Kadettenanstalt" / "Kadettenschule" very likely.
Attached photo from a german "Kadettenanstalt" around 1900/1905.

Gentlemen,
thanks for your excellent suggestions! Would indeed explain the buttons and lack of military insignia. A relative has now suggested that it may be a portrait of a person born in Odessa in 1900. A Russian "Kadettenanstalt"?

Another picture of a young relative in uniform also probably born in Odessa in the late 19th century. Also a school uniform, do you think?
