reichsriegsflagge?

Post by Bryan Swiger » 19 Jun 2002 21:14

I recently acquired a flag. It has German writings on the back:From what I have found out: it is a battle flag. REICHSKRIEGSFLAGGE? and the measurements embedded are 60x90. I was told it came from a German U-boat. How would I authenticate it? What value would it have historically or monetarily?

I have a couple of those both reproduction and original. When compared side by side you can tell the difference in the cloth--the original feels more 'wooly'. The repro is close though (it's a good one). The reproduction is stamped simply 'Reichskriegsflagge' but the original has a small kriegsmarine eagle stamped on it.

REICHSKRIEGSFLAGGE?

I need to know where the eagle is stamped, and if the repro flags have 60x90 metric dimensions stamped on the back also.

Flag

I have not see the reproduction flags stamped with the metric size, BUT, that does not mean they dont have them. Few flags, reproductions have the feel or weight that the originals have, the wool is usually a course sandy feel, and is a loose weave. The KM eagle is usually stamped near the size, or maker stamp, and looks like a small winged eagle with an "M" under it for "Marine".
