German Kar98 bayonet

Post by Gryphon » 10 Jul 2002 00:17

Hello there,

I'm new to this forum and i recently started collecting German ww2 items. I have a question about a Kar98 bayonet i bought.

I would like to know where it was produced, what the rarity is, what theatres it is likely to have seen and any additional info i can get ;)

Well here is the info:

It's a normal Kar98 bayo, not a dress model.

Info on the scabbard
(frog stud side): 3906 s
other side: jwh 44

Info on the blade
jwh
other side: 3906 s

Info on the pommel
a 251

thanks alot in advance ;)

Regards,

Gryphon

HELLO AND WELCOME TO THE FORUM! THE JWH MAKER IS, STAATLICHE WAFFENFABRIK, FROM CHATELLERAULT FRANCE. FROM WHAT I KNOW OF COMBAT BAYONETS THIS IS ONE OF THE RARE BIRDS. RANKS UP WITH 1945 MADE BAYOS. ANY 44 MADE BAYO IF MATCHING IS A SOUGHT AFTER ITEM TO BAYONET COLLECTORS. FOR THE AREAS THAT IT WOULD HAVE SEEN USE I COULDNT SAY. THE WAFFEN INSPECTOR STAMP IS THE 251 NUMBER,IF IT IS SMALL MARK. SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE OFF TO A GREAT START IF THIS IS A NEW AREA OF COLLECTING FOR YOU. ALSO YOU MIGHT WANT TO CHECK OUT THE "BAYONET COLLECTORS NETWORK" THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO PROVIDE ALOT MORE INFO ON THIS ITEM THAN I COULD. THEY TRACK MAKERS AND TRY TO SHOW THE NUMBERS THAT WERE PRODUCED ETC... I THINK THAT MANY COLLECTORS WOULD BE WAITING TO SNATCH THIS ONE UP. POST SOME PICTURES IF YOU WISH. GREAT SCORE!!
