Eagle on grip SA dagger

Post by sdkfz182 » 12 Jul 2002 22:04

Hello,

I recently got a SA dagger. As you all can see the eagle on the grip is almost a "cupper" color. Normally at pictures who are circulating at the
WWW the eagle has a silver collor. Is mine this way due to intensive
use, or where they also made with an eagle in this copper color ?

The RZM mark is M7/33 1941.

Many thanks in advance, with kind regards,

sdkfz 182

Hello Brett,

Thank you for the fast reply. I didn't know they where actually made with copper eagles. I must admit, I did hope so, because the rest of the dagger shows almost no signs of wear. I'm looking forward to your picture.

Thanks and kind regards,

I HAVE SEEN BIGGER DEALERS MAKE MENTION OF THE COPPER EAGLE,OR SILVER FROSTED COPPER EAGLES WHEN DESCRIBING SA'S.I'M NOT SURE IF THEY ADD A PREIMUM ONTO THE PRICE FOR THESE OR NOT,MAYBE A FEW DOLLARS. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND,EAGLES WERE SUPPLIED BY VARIOUS MFGS. TO MAKERS AND IF YOU START LOOKING AT ALOT OF SA'S NOT MANY HAVE COPPER. SAME GOES WITH THE RUNE. ITS TUFF TO IMAGINE BUT AT THE TIME BOXES OF EAGLES,BOXES OF RUNES AND OTHER PARTS WHEN YOU RAN OUT JUST GRAB ANOTHER BOX. I DOUBT THAT MANY WORKERS CARED IF THE EAGLE WAS COPPER OR NICKLE JUST TO FINISH THE GRIP AND FIT IT TO THE CROSSGUARDS.I WILL WATCH FOR OTHER COPPER EAGLES AND START POSTING THEM HERE.

Copper is commonly used as a base metal for silver plated items. Could it be that these eagles are simply ones which have lost their silver plate?
