Northern Cruiser (aux) "Ching (Ting) Hai"

My available sources have conflicting data on the (aux) cruiser "Ching Hai."
Wright indicates this ship was the arms-runner "Oleg" built originally in 1896 as "Pronto" and captured in 1926. Lloyds would seem to agree with this.
The Chinese Warships Museum site indicates this ship was the much smaller ex-Russian icebreaker "Tsar Schichedo Nicou" built in 1897 and purchased in 1924. This site also has a profile drawing of the ship. I can find no listing for this icebreaker so I presume that the name is mis-represented on the Warships Museum site.
Can anyone help sort this out?

Ralph

Do you have the Chinese name for this ship? It's a bit hard to tell from the English which ship you are refering to. Or perhaps a link to the ship in the Ship Museum site would do.

SJ
apparently the Chinese Warships Museum site is down. I certainly hope not for very long. I had only just begun to research all the wonderful information on this site. in the course of my research I had previously printed the relevant page for the "Ting Hai" and a Dictionary.com translation. I scanned this print but cannot upload it to this forum or attach it to an email to you through the forum. my computer also does not have CJK character capability. I use NJStar software for my database to allow the CJK characters but I cannot insert them anywhere else - very frustrating. Howver I could email the scanned page directly to you if you were to let me know your email address. mine is [email protected]

One of my sources, a list of pre-1937 Chinese navy vessels compiled during wartime has the Ting Hai as a 900 ton (approx.) transport; this seems to match the Chinese museum's description better.
