Designation of Numbered "Corps," or Army in NRA

Post by jerryasher » 01 May 2020 22:42

Is there an accepted list of the day of authorization or creation of the National Revolutionary Army "Corps," or Army 1925-1928? I use the terms interchangeably as different writers in English, use one or another. I am aware that 1,2,3,4,5, were the originals, that 6 was created in January 1926, 7 in March or April, 8, 9 & 10 in July 1926. Then I loose it, am not even sure that 18th, 19th were used. Thank you--somebody must have done this. In December 1926 Jiang held conference on standardizing formations, and by March we are up to 37th. Thank you in advance.

Thank you OpanaPointer; Do you have anything more specific relating to the formations of the "Northern Expedition"?
For instance the 8th Corps in Hunan was designated on July 1, 1926 although not publicized until after it captured Changsha July9/10? or until Jiang Jieshi arrived at Changsha in August 1926. I have a note that 26th Corps in Zhejiang Province was not designated until December 17th, 1926. It's kind of fun to pin down the dates--like a puzzle. BUT I am sure someone, in some language has already done this. I would like to know. Again, thank you.

Some background info. By custom Chinese and Japanese Kanji avoided using the term corps all together. Instead, the echelon above divisions is army (军 or 軍). For Western military usage of corps, Japanese translation is 軍団 with a pronouncement “gundan”.
