What if Western powers would have gone to war against USSR ?
One thing that I never have seen discussed or debated is the question of what if the powers of the west (USA,GBR,France...) had gone to war against USSR after the defeat of GER ? As unlikely as it seems both Churchill and some elements of USA never trusted the sovjets and foresaw great conflicts in the future. Patton himselfe aggrivated for this reasoning that why not attack now as the army is already in europe ..(!)
Would the armies of the west be able to defeat USSR in a open conflict in 45 ? Offcourse the a-bomb would have setteled things quickly but looking aside that how would sovjet cope with the enourmos opposing air power ? How would western soldiers cope with the tanks of stalin? And would they seek the assistance of remaining elemts of whermacht?
I know this never happened and that its fare fetch but what if?

I reckon that the allies would have eventually won because they would be able to nuke any major Soviet city, port, facility or troop concentration within range of their B29s. I don't think even Stalin would want to stay in the fight with all his stuff getting vapourised avery few days or so.
On the ground there would be some titanic conventional battles, rivaling and even surpassing those between the Soviets and the Germans. But eventually, with the affor-mentioned might of the allied air forces, and the irrepressable manufacturing capacity of the allies for tanks, ships, aircraft etc, I beleive the allies would win, even on the ground.
I reckon it would probably cost another 10 or 15 million lives though, once the nukes had been used.
