February, 1945 - What tank do you choose?
I'd choose a T-34 and swap the flags according to the particular affiliate I came across...
Really I'd choose a Pershing! It'd be great. You'd to get to filled up with Gas all the way to the front. And when you get there by the last week of the war, there'd be plenty of Shermans to have your flanks covered Better watch out for those Pz.II Fuchs though, I hear those tungsten core 20mm shells can reak havok on 19mm rear hull armor

Okay, I'll tell you guys, my pick is the T32. It's 90mm T15E2 had a better performance than that of the L/71. The T15E2 had amuzzle velocity of 3,750ft per second. It had 200mm frontal turret armour and 125mm frontal sloped armour and 75mm side armour. Essentially, imagine a lighter King Tiger with the manueverability of a Pershing. It looked like a Pershing on steroids. I haven't found a picture of it online, but I may post one from a scanner if no one can find a pic. Well, the suspense is over, that is my pick.

My personal fav would be the Panther F with night vision and telescopic range finder (thread about this on "Third Reich").
Good armor, an excellent gun, very reliable engine and good cross country performance. Also it had a nice little low profile design too.
Speed and accuracy I'll take any day instead of sitting in a 80 ton coffin waiting for an airstrike.

Yeah, Marcus, that was the only pic of a T32 that I seemed to be able to find. In actuality, if you don't have a book with a pic of it, I'll try to do my best job of describing it. Imagine a Pershing with an extra roadwheel, a far longer 90mm gun, overall bigger vehicle, and a counterweight on the turret rear. That's about it.Marcus Wendel wrote:Logan Hartke wrote:Okay, I'll tell you guys, my pick is the T32.
The T32 above don't look to frightening to me

Re: which tank
I think I'd pick a late mark IV. It didn't have the armor of either the Tiger or the Panther, but it was much faster and more maneuverable than the former, and a lot less prone to breakdowns than the latter.
Call me old fashioned, but I like to trust my combat equipment when the you-know-what hits the fan.

Actually, the Pz.Kpfw. IV was a great deal slower than the Tiger II - see http://www.panzerworld.net/TigerIIcomp.htm . It is true that the Panther broke down a lot more than the Pz.Kpfw. IV, but the Tiger II only broke down a little bit more often...

Re: Tiger speed
Son of a gun! You're right.....the Tiger WAS a bit faster than the Mk IV. Somehow I had the impression it was a fair amount slower. I think I'd still pick the Mk IV though, because of the reliability.
Though if the Panther had been more reliable, it would have been my pick; it was the best overall tank design of them all. Just had the odd engineering problem.

Re: head start
Do I get a wee head start? Say, maybe a day? Calculating the speed differential, I figure I ought to be able find a nice river someplace, one with a bridge too insubstantial for you to cross. Or maybe you'll run out of gas. "Hope springs eternal...." etc. <g>

Re: the 88
Did I mention I'm also trying to find a used, but serviceable P-47? Backup is always useful. <g>

If I was in a T32, I'd accept in February, 1945. Your King Tiger would get a run for its money. The T32 had the armor and firepower of the Tiger II, but better mobility.Ferdinand Porsche wrote:Okay - but I'm warning you - I'm coming after you in my Tiger II (frontal assault - then we'll see) hee hee hee!
