At Okinawa, 20,000 Americans died in killing 100,000 Japanese over 80 days.

Without atom bombs, and without a surrender order from the Emperor, would Japan literally have fought to the last man woman, child and Korean, including by mass suicide?

If so, extrapolating, Downfall would have lasted over 100 years!

Gen. Anami, War Minster, said Japan would "chew grass and eat dirt" before surrendering. He proposed the slogan "One hundred million dead to save the spirit of Japan!" Japan had about 70,000,000 people then, so the Allies would have had to make up the deficit.
