Former members of the German Communist Party take over Nazi government buildings by surprise

Post by Cantankerous » 12 Feb 2021 01:07

Let's say that after Hitler launched his long-awaited invasion of the USSR, his action emboldened former members of the German Communist Party decide to launch surprise attacks on the headquarters of the SS in Berlin as well as Nazi Party and Hitler Youth offices across Germany in order to rally ordinary German citizens against Operation Barbarossa on the grounds that communism was not a Jewish invention and that Marx called all religions "opium of the masses". If veteran members of the outlawed German Communist Party had chosen to resort to suicide bombings of the HQs of the SS as well as Nazi Party and Hitler Youth offices in Munich, Nuremberg, and other cities in Germany, would they have succeeded in convincing German citizens to rise up against the Nazi regime by questioning the morality of Hitler's plans to liquidate Slavs (Nazi gun control laws allowed German citizens of pure Aryan blood to maintain guns)?

Seriously? Suicide bombings are hardly likely to win over the German public in mid-war, and it will take time to counter the years of propaganda against the USSR before people even start to believe it - it wasnt just Nazis who didnt like Communism after all. The population were still allowed hunting rifles at least as many civilians still had such weapons by the wars end, the ban on guns applied to Jews and possibly other similar minorities and maybe criminals?

Given the Nazis control the press, they are going to take this public and it will massively increase their grip on German society. They have a major propaganda coup in this and can pin the whole thing on Jews and Communists. See! It really is the Jews and Communists that are causing Germany's problems! Stand with us for decency and moral justice!

It would make the Nazi's job so much easier.

Another thread soon getting locked. I think Cantankerous is seeking some sort of record.

Had a little research been done here... The first round up and population group in the concentration camps were the German Communist leadership. The Reichstag Fire of 27 Feb 1933 was excuse for arresting and imprisoning the Communist Party leadership, foreign Communists present n Germany, suspected spies & agents. All this started less than two months after Hitler was appointed Chancellor by Hindenburg. The fire itself, which Goering later bragged about organizing, was just four weeks after the election & Hitlers appointment.

Bottom line is there was no longer a Communist organization to do such a thing in June 1941. The leadership were dead, or dying in the camps. Others were in exile. Many in the rank and file of the party had switched to nazi party membership to avoid sanctions. After all the nazis of that era were pushing socialist policies. Even the extensive Soviet spy & agent organization had been wrecked. Only the most tenuous espionage connections remained.
