Some time ago on, IIRC, another board, we looked into this. The figures made for dismal reading if you are Axis.

If you remember a link let me know. Everything about the Axis makes for dismal reading. Musolinis stupidity in dragging in Greece is one of the lower points & my intuition is Axis Greece would be another.

what if the most rudimentary version of this scenario happens?

Greece "joins" the Axis to avoid a conflict with Italy, the hostile invasion of the country is avoided.

there could/would be a "creeping" German occupation but from the German side they avoid the loss of aircraft taking Crete and the sinking of those ships transporting AFVs.

Does Germany--in particular--make Greece contribute troops and aircraft to their other operations? For example, does Greece have to send troops to North Africa? How about Russia?

I'd think at the same level as Spain or Hungary. While Greece has lots of cannon fodder its participation does little for logistics in the east. Not enough transportation or railway & automobiles. Greek cargo ships may help along the Black Sea littoral, but thats not going to be much of a assist around orel or wherever. There is a incentive to leave most of the Greek air force in place to add a extra layer of defense on the southern flank.

my view was simply not having to occupy the country, not to raise an army of Greeks to fight on the Eastern Front.

my long time speculation is always for a German base(s) inside Vichy Syria, from which they could attack Cyprus and the Baku oilfields (potentially)

Is Greece independent in food supplies? If not, where does it come from, and how?
"Although Greece was a predominantly rural country, the peasantry, especially on the islands, produced mainly cash crops such as olive oil, tobacco and currants. The population was dependent on the annual import of 450,000 tons of American grain for one-third of its food but the British blockade of occupied Europe cut Greece off from all imports."
'A Taste of War', Lizzie Collingham, p 166.

Greece went very hungry in WWII as the Axis made little effort to feed it. Not sure how much effort Berlin would have made to help them, even as allies, as food was short everywhere.
