Good Morning. A East coast chap eh? I used to Live In Kingston Ontario...and will again soon god willing. I wonder if the allies used the higgins boat from the very beginning. I'm fairly sure that they did but not 100%.

Has this one been done?
What if the German drive to the Caucuses had been successful and they linked with the African Armies? How would the war in North Africa have progressed from that point and what do you think their next steps would have been?

i believe the germans would suffer many casualties while storming the beachead but will recieve little resistance after that. half of britain's tank force was in africa at that time, and the infantry themselves have a shortage of rifles.

Hi all,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Britain mostly forest? There is no plains for the panzers to initiate a blitzkrieg type of attack.

The Brits are a though people, they would have defended their land very well. I don't think Britain has many forests. I remember reading that they had little trees left after building millions of houses out of them for the past two millenia. Also I read that the Britsih had gas waiting to be used in case of an invasion.

Hi all,

Would the German U-Boat fleet been able to inflict heavy losses on the Royal Navy (since they will be concentrated in on area)?

Good morning.
Just a quick note from an Engalnder regarding the forests, theres a very few arears of woodland left on the british isles and next to none along the south coast, there are however two sets of hills called the north and south downs but these are not much of an obsticle.
One thing a saw once was a program regarding the me321 gigant, emagine a hundred of these landing early one moring with just the home guard to meet them!

I think the U-Boats would be able to put a dent into the RN.

Also, exactly how many people were there to defend the Isles at that time. Many more must have been defending the Empire.

Wouldn't having numbers of Uboats operating in a fairly small area like the channel be more risky, due to the fact that it would probably be jam-packed with British destroyers. Also, does anyone know how many U-boats the kriegsmarine had at this time? Please let me know if you can.

Thank you.

Lawrence,
In 1940 the Kreigsmarine BUILT 68 U-Boats and in 1941 128, according to the Penguin Historical Atlas of the Third Reich. Total around 1154 were built before and after the war.

I meant before and during the war.

The Englsih would expect them to land on the southern coats, so I guess the east side wouldn't be as heavily defended. But crossing the North Sea is another story....

Hi all,

If the Germans launched their attack early in the war, the advanced anti submarine weapons weren't developed yet (the hedgehog, etc).

When I saw photographs of German officers looking across the Channel from the French coast, there were cliffs everywhere. Is all of the British south coast like that or is just like that across the area of Calais?
