U.S. President Huey P. Long?

Post by Cory C » 22 Sep 2004 13:21

What if U.S. politician Huey P. Long had not been assasinated and went on to defeat Roosevelt in 1936? What if he had then won re-election in 1940?

Huey P. Long

He doesn`t look for war, assured that the US won`t intervene Japan attacks Britain`s colonies during the Battle of Britain, later the submarines launche a wider warfare in the Atlantic(no exclusion zones).
Without US shipes, the U-boats have it easier, eventually Germany wins in north africa and is soon engaged with the red army in the middle-east.
Britain finally is isolated from Canada, lost all colonies in Asia and north africa, the middle-east begge for peace in 1943.
War end in the Pacific and the US have extended it`s military presence from the Phillipines and pearl Harbour to New-Zeland and Australia. US neutrality wasn`t for free.
The greate unknow remain the CCCP-German war, with less technology, the soviets have more difficulty.

If Huey Long had won the 1936 election, and he had been reelected in 1940, he would have given Italy and Japan a free pass to conquer European colonies in Africa and Asia, and he would have pressured Winston Churchill to give India and Burma their independence.
